Blend Education with Practical Sunscreen Advice

Educating clients about sun protection is crucial in my practice, and I approach it with a blend of education and practical advice. I often compare sun protection to insurance for their skin's long-term health and beauty, emphasizing that UV exposure not only accelerates aging but also increases the risk of skin cancer. Using visual aids like UV photos or 3-D skin analysis, I demonstrate the hidden effects of sun damage and how sunscreen acts as a shield against these harmful rays. I also recommend broad-spectrum SPF products suited to their skin type and daily routines, integrating sun protection seamlessly into their beauty regimen. By combining science-backed facts with personalized recommendations, I empower my clients to make informed choices that preserve their skin's youthful appearance and overall well-being.

Incorporate Sunscreen into Anti-Aging Regimen

Sun protection is critical for preventing wrinkles and dark spots and should always be incorporated into any anti-aging regimen. Sunscreens need to be used as the last step in your skincare routine. After layering any serums or antioxidants, sunscreen should then be applied on top. For someone who prefers to wear makeup, I recommend choosing a tinted sunscreen that can both provide an even, glowing complexion as well as sun protection. The most ideal sunscreen is one with an SPF of 30 or higher, broad-spectrum coverage, and mineral-based (containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide). As an added bonus, choose a sunscreen with hyaluronic acid to give your skin extra hydration.

Emphasize Sunscreen's Role in Preventing Aging

As a board-certified dermatologist, and someone who treats a lot of skin cancers, I always start with the facts and science! I let my patients and listeners know that 90% of visible aging is from the sun! Not only will wearing sunscreen keep your skin looking younger and more vibrant, but it will also protect you from skin cancers that can be inconvenient at best, and life-threatening at worst. Incorporating sunscreen into your skin care routine needs to be habitual, like brushing your teeth. I recommend keeping your sunscreen right next to your toothbrush so you see it and reach for it reflexively, not just when you're going to the pool or beach. Nowadays, sunscreens are so light and easy to wear, even under makeup, so find one where you like the feel of it.

Advocate for Mineral Sunscreen and Nature's Shield

I like to keep it simple. Have a date with fun in the sun? This is when a mineral sunscreen with a minimum 30 SPF is your friend and should always be your plus-one at the pool, river, or when in the sun for prolonged periods, such as when gardening. Just going about your day-to-day routine, coming in and out of the sun? This is where nature extends a layer of protection through botanical ingredients and oils that provide a shield against free radicals and other harmful aspects, not just when in the sun, but also indoors and in front of your computer screen. When choosing a sunscreen, mineral is where it's at. No need to poison ourselves or the environment with pesky ingredients such as oxybenzone and other oxy-prefixed ingredients commonly found in chemical sunscreens. Just remember, when in nature, embrace nature in your sunscreen protection as well and enjoy the Vitamin D!

Highlight Daily SPF as Essential Skincare Step

When we talk to clients about the importance of sun protection in their daily beauty routine, we always highlight how crucial it is to use SPF every day. By making SPF a regular part of their skincare, they can fight off premature aging and protect their skin from harmful sun damage, even in the intense Arizona sun.

Educate Clients During Makeup Consultations

As a professional makeup artist, when Lara visited my studio for a makeup session, I made it a priority to educate her about the importance of sun protection. Understanding her upcoming event, I integrated this crucial topic into our consultation. I emphasized that sunscreen plays a critical role in daily skincare by shielding against harmful UV rays that can penetrate clouds and windows, leading to skin damage and premature aging. To ensure Lara grasped the significance, I recommended a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, demonstrating the proper application technique. I underscored the necessity of reapplying sunscreen every two hours, especially during prolonged outdoor activities. This personalized approach not only enhanced the longevity and flawless appearance of her makeup but also empowered Lara to prioritize her skin health, extending beyond immediate cosmetic goals.

Personalize Sun Protection Advice and Debunk Myths

Sun protection is my passion! I help clients understand its benefits: youthful skin, fewer dark spots, and minimized skin cancer risk. I personalize advice—wrinkles? We have an SPF 50 cream! Dullness? Our mineral serum evens tone!

Myths debunked! Tans aren't healthy, and sunscreen doesn't block vitamin D. I explain SPF and how it protects from UVB rays.

Making it easy: Oil-free options for those who dislike greasy textures. Daily use is key, so I suggest incorporating sunscreen into their morning routine.

Application matters! I show them proper application, ensuring all areas are covered.

Concerns addressed: Worried about breakouts? We have non-comedogenic formulas! Dislike white cast? Our mineral sunscreens offer sheer coverage.

Alternatives: Not everyone loves sunscreen. I suggest sun-protective clothing or hats for additional protection.

Enthusiasm is contagious! I love sharing our EIGHT.OLD sunscreen line. It combines powerful protection with organic ingredients like Red Raspberry Seed Oil, leaving skin nourished and hydrated.

Ultimately, my passion shines through when clients find a sunscreen they love. They know I care about protecting their beautiful skin with the best possible products!
